Art + Practice (A+P), Los Angeles
This program, co-organized by Art + Practice and LORE, explores solo parenthood, especially Black solo motherhood, through history, personal narrative, and literature. Together, we will trace harmful stereotypes, from the Moynihan Report to respectability politics, then turn to Black feminist thought and lived experience to reframe solo parenting as whole, abundant, and love-filled. At the of this session is a discussion of *How Mamas Love Their Babies* (Juniper Fitzgerald, illustrated by Elise Peterson), a children’s book that expands how we see mothers and families in all their forms.
