Wednesday, October 28, 2026 at 7:30 PM

Hammer Museum, Los Angeles

Award-winning chef, restaurateur, and food activist** Marcus Samuelsson** discusses his singular approach to food, tracing how ancient, "of-the-earth" ingredients—coconut, teff, plantains, acai, rice—carry stories of ancestry, migration, and resilience across the Caribbean, the Americas, the Pacific, Asia, and Africa. Drawing on profiles of chefs and producers worldwide, Samuelsson offers a global meditation on food as sustainability, ritual, and healing, and how these culinary traditions can guide us back to nourishing, soulful cooking at home. Samuelsson will be joined in conversation by **Laurie Ochoa**, general manager of Food at the *Los Angeles Times*, and **Sandra Jackson Dumont**, former director and CEO of the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art. Samuelsson will also sign copies of his newest book, *Back to Green: Rediscovering a World of Delicious, Healthy Eating*, following the talk.
