*“Lying’s the most fun a girl can have without taking her clothes off – but it’s better if you do.”* The film that inspired pop-punk songs from bands like Panic! at the Disco and Fall Out Boy, they just don’t make movies like the late Mike Nichols' prestige star-studded drama CLOSER anymore. It’s a cinematic feat that has Natalie Portman playing a manic pixie dream girl, who at one point gives Clive Owen a lap dance in a bright pink wig, and gets Julia Roberts to scream, “It tastes like you but sweeter,” in regards to Jude Law’s you-know-what. CLOSER is a sex-punched drama about messy relationships and falling in and out of love, and the tragedy all ends with the world’s most depressing indie folk song, “The Blower’s Daughter” by Damien Rice (“Did I say that I loathe you? / Did I say that I want to / Leave it all behind? / I can’t take my mind off of you”).
