Vielmetter Los Angeles, Los Angeles
Vielmetter Los Angeles is excited to present a Spotlight exhibition of new works by Long Beach-based artist Evan Trine, Ketchup & Mustard. On view from July 11 through August 29, 2026, the presentation includes new works from a series of floral still life compositions that combine elements of painting and photography. The still life arrangements are an amalgamation of experimental printing methods, collage, and painterly interventions. Trine rearranges the order of ink cartridges in a large-format printer, printing each image repeatedly on linen until it transforms into a multifaceted and irreproducible composition. Manipulating the printer in this way, Trine reimagines the photographic tool as an expressive instrument. The printed images are further rearranged and then sewn together in segments, some of which are painted with bold swathes of acrylic. Trine’s layering process weaves together digital and analog methodologies into loosely gridded arrangements that investigate the complex ways in which images are produced, processed, and perceived.Through his work, Trine adopts the painterly trope of the floral still life and its attendant concerns with ephemerality and permanence, using it as a framework for playing with color and composition and for broadening the boundaries of the photographic image.
