To foil a terrorist plot, an FBI agent assumes the identity of the criminal who murdered his son via facial transplant surgery, but the crook wakes up prematurely and vows revenge. Amongst all the praise and meme-ification of Cage, we need to re-examine John Woo’s FACE/OFF as a Travolta vehicle! Both stars are equally great here as they riff on each other’s persona, but Travolta’s evocation of Cage is unforgettable in its subtleties amongst the explosions and maniacal cackling. You’ll be quoting his Cage-y vocal tics for weeks afterward.
