Family Weekend Workshops: Take Shape

The Broad, Los Angeles

Inspired by The Broad’s special exhibition, [***Robert Therrien: This is a Story***](https://www.thebroad.org/art/special-exhibitions/robert-therrien-story), look at Therrien’s artwork in a new light and make your own seat at the table. Step into Therrien’s shoes and see the everyday in a whole new way. Use stencils to create parts that make up a whole as you build a sculpture, taking a cue from Therrien’s most-used forms. Cut out your shapes and build your object using wire, cardboard, pipe cleaners, and more. Make it your own by decorating with fabric or paint sticks to bring your work to life. Don’t forget to experience Therrien’s exhibition, located on the first floor of the museum—and see if you can find his sculpture of an unusually large set of furniture elsewhere in the museum (clue: it’s always on view on the third floor!).   [**Robert Therrien**](https://www.thebroad.org/art/robert-therrien) was a Los Angeles-based artist whose work talks about how we view space, memory, and perception. Turning everyday objects into works of art, Therrien invites us to see the familiar with fresh eyes. In his art, the ordinary becomes poetic, offering an opportunity to reflect, remember, and feel present in a specific space and time.   Image credits clockwise starting on the left: Photo by Josh White / JWPictures.com; Photos from past Family Weekend Workshops by Salvador Ceja Garcia
