### **ABOUT THE EVENT:** Prior to the screening, Los Angeles Silent Film Festival merch will be available for purchase in the auditorium. ### **ABOUT THE FILM:** One of the earliest horror films, FAUST (1926) was renowned director F. W. Murnau’s last film in Germany before moving to Hollywood for the making of SUNRISE. A visually stunning example of German Expressionism, the film takes a mythic look at the battle of good versus evil just before the rise of Nazi Germany. Elder alchemist Faust sells his soul to the devil (Mephisto) to gain youth and power, only to succumb to temptation and lust, before finding the redemptive power of love. FAUST combines ingenious special effects and gorgeous visual sequences that later influenced other films such as FANTASIA and forces viewers* *to confront difficult moral choices and values.
