If you’ve ever wanted to step into the world of film writing, this course is designed to give you some direction—and a nudge! Chris Shields and Sarah Fensom, film and art journalists with over 25 years of experience between them, will walk you through different approaches you can take when crafting reviews, interviewing filmmakers, and voicing your insights about what you’ve seen. ‍ In this course, we’ll: -Discuss how to approach a film you want to write about -Break down the elements that go into reviews, interviews, and essays -Provide some insight into pitching and the editorial process -Do some brief viewing together -Draft a short review ‍ Please bring something to write with—a pen and paper, laptop, or phone all work! ‍ **Chris Shields** is a film writer and filmmaker based in Los Angeles. He is a frequent contributor to Sight and Sound, Reverse Shot, Film Comment, Cineaste, Vinegar Syndrome, and Screen Slate. He is the writer and co-star of Lindsay Denniberg’s cult favorite *Video Diary of a Lost Girl* and her forthcoming film, *Killer Makeover*. He recently made his feature directorial debut with *Morbid Weekend*. He is married to writer Sarah Fensom. ‍ **Sarah Fensom** is a film and arts journalist based in Los Angeles. With over 15 years of experience as a writer, she has contributed to the Los Angeles Times, American Cinematographer, BOMB, Sight and Sound, LA Review of Books, Film Comment, and a host of other publications. She is the co-writer and star of Lindsay Denniberg’s forthcoming film, *Killer Makeove*r and a uniquely glamorous person.
