UPEND presents Japanese sound artist FUJI|||||||||||TA Ever-seeking sounds yet unheard, Yosuke Fujita reinvents again. With an intentionally pared-down setup, he uses a simple pump to push air through two lightweight metal organ pipes of his own design. With a small microphone, he deftly intercepts the airflow, amplifying bursts of flitter and hiss, and punctuating the gestures, tapping the mic to metal. By sampling these newly-discovered sonic textures on-the-fly and adding them back into the mix Fuji|||||||||||ta creates a clever hybrid of live performance and of musique concrète. –– FUJI|||||||||||TA is a Sound Artist living in Japan. His unique practice utilizes various natural phenomena that respond to his interest in wanting to hear unheard sounds and noises. In 2009 Fujita hand fabricated a Pipe Organ that has only 11 pipes and no keyboard. Fujita conceived and built it using his imagination, without any prior or specialized knowledge. Since 2006 he has had many solo performances and collaborative works with musicians, including ∈Y∋ (Boredoms), Akio Suzuki, Keiji Haino, and Koichi Makigami. He has presented his sound installation works in many contexts including the Sapporo International Art Festival 2017. He tours internationally, has performed at Mode in London and Toyko, and released LPs on Hallow Ground and Boomkat Editions.
