**Georgia Maq** **Leng Bian** National treasure Georgia Maq today unveils details of her latest musical project, the forthcoming EP God’s Favourite arriving on September 4 alongside her latest single ‘Pay Per View’. LISTEN + WATCH HERE. Of her new offering, Georgia shares, “Pay Per View was written when I first came to LA and I was slamming the apps going on dates trying to find the love of my life but just going home feeling like a microwaved battery because dating in LA is hell.” Eschewing drama from artificial production but rather, space to spread herself across a live band flanks Maq’s latest chrysalis. Stripping it back to the heart of the songwriting tradition, ‘Pay Per View’ boils through its 3 minute run time. Boasting dynamism through music’s most primal instrumentation – piano, horns, organ – casting a warm familiarity over the release. Employing simplicity and lyrics direct as ever is what maintains Maq’s signature aura. You’d never consider the uncouth subject matter of ‘Pay Per View’ as her commanding voice glides over rolling chords; vocal runs that insist on a call and response between artist and listener in unison. ‘Pay Per View’ is the first preview of God’s Favourite, an EP set to assert the singer and guitarist’s place in Australia’s prized canon of songwriters. Elsewhere, footnotes of Americana and folk, imbued from her relocation to Los Angeles, find form as the she embraces softer, unchartered territories to her sound. Reflective of her unrelenting defiance and fearlessness to claim space at every opportunity, just as the skill and talent seeps inherited through her. Georgia Maq became something of a local hero as the leader of revered punk trio Camp Cope, calling out music industry sexism over fearsome indie rock salvos while garnering widespread international acclaim. In late 2019, Maq surprised everyone by releasing her solo debut, Pleaser, a refreshingly bright and catchy missive of electro-pop tunes about heartbreak and love. A suite of singles in 'Someone Stranger' with Alice Ivy, 'Joe Rogan', 'tropical lush ice' and live EP recorded at the Sydney Opera House showcase the breadth of her taste and range. Ever since, Georgia has chased a more genuine form of pop music in her solo career, a vision hat retains all of the glamour and universality but feels unburdened from capitalist underpinnings. Mining the evergreen themes of romantic, sexual and self-love, Georgia Maq’s solo venture was not so much a transformation as it was a revelation. Opening up on her vulnerabilities and heartbreaks, her continued evolution is far beyond the Greek girl from Naarm that first set fire to the rain.
