Fahey/Klein Gallery is pleased to host acclaimed film director, photographer, and author Harold Becker for a special book signing celebrating the release of his memoir, Catching the Light: A Memoir from Behind the Lens. The event will take place Saturday, December 13th, from 2:00–4:00 p.m. at 148 North La Brea Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90036. Admission is free and open to the public. Signed books are available for purchase while supplies last.In Catching the Light, Becker reflects on his remarkable creative life — from formative years in New York and his early achievements as a commercial photographer and graphic designer, to becoming a Hollywood filmmaker known for gripping narrative style and bold visual sensibility. With candid behind-the-scenes insight, Becker discusses his transition into independent filmmaking, the celebrated documentaries that launched his directing career, and the leap into “New Hollywood” that led to his breakthrough feature, The Onion Field. Becker’s memoir revisits his most memorable film projects and collaborations, including casting then-unknown talents such as James Woods and Ted Danson (The Onion Field), Sean Penn and Tom Cruise (TAPS), Matthew Modine and Madonna (Vision Quest), and his acclaimed work with Al Pacino (Sea of Love, City Hall). He offers a frank and fascinating look at navigating an evolving Hollywood system while remaining true to an independent artistic spirit. “A captivation memoir that showcase Harold’s profound wisdom and sophistication as a photographer, filmmaker, and now as a writer. His storytelling is joyous and unpretentious, offering readers an inside look at his striking photography and dynamic films. It’s a magic carpet ride through his life, making readers feel part of his journey.”- Al Pacino“Harold is a dear friend and filmmaker I admire tremendously. I will forever be grateful for the opportunity of not only being in TAPS but for his generosity in allowing every door of the production to be opened for my edification. I studied every department, every aspect of this film production with his encouragement. It helped form the very foundation of my cinematic education.”- Tom CruiseIn addition to signing books, Becker will be available to greet attendees and discuss the visual and narrative legacy of his work across photography and cinema.
