MOCA Grand Avenue, Los Angeles
In Session invites visitors to engage with readings, film/video and writing activities that relate to current exhibitions and are meant to generate self-reflection and group discussion. This In Session will focus on Larry Johnson, who currently has work on view in In These Times: Recent Acquisitions at MOCA. Capacity is limited to 15 people. In Session is organized by MOCA Education. A contemporary innovator of Pop, LA-based artist Larry Johnson makes photographs that look nothing like photographs. In his witty, incisive, cartoon-like proto-photos, Johnson appropriates the images and aesthetics of TV and movie animation, graphic design, commercial illustration, and advertising to deconstruct the terms of American culture’s self-presentation.
