Please stop by for a bite and chat with our community and spotlight artist-duo [Nabuurs&VanDoorn. ](https://18thstreet.org/artists/nabuursvandoorn-january-august-2026/)For this first Intersection Nabuurs&VanDoorn invite everyone to take part in a Counter-Mapping Workshop. Through stories and images, Nabuurs&VanDoorn will show how they have mapped cities from Detroit to Berlin, and now Los Angeles. Afterward, you’ll join a hands-on mapping session, where together we’ll invent new maps of our own surroundings, tracing the connections, feelings, and encounters that make our local landscape alive. No experience needed, just curiosity. Artist bio: Nabuurs&VanDoorn (b. Dutch, nomadic practice) draw inspiration from cultural identities, wealth structures, community tactics, social constructions, and urban revitalization. Using consumer-based materials which they prefer to isolate from existing circulation. Nabuurs&VanDoorn create games and collect protocols that represent our living environment by altering mapped experiences. They combine artistic research with playgrounds, props, and collective performances. Nabuurs&VanDoorn were nominated twice for the Follow Fluxus Award. Nabuurs has a background in Cultural Studies, while van Doorn graduated from Design Academy Eindhoven, department Man and Public Space. This project has received funding through a grant from the Netherland-America Foundation.
