LA Festival of Movies presents *Shades of Silk (Ombres de soie)*, by director Mary Stephen. 62 minutes, France/Canada, 1978. West Coast Premiere of the new 4K restoration. Preceded by *Dreams of Passion* by Aarin Burch. 4 min. USA, 1989/2026. ∆ *Ombres de soie (Shades of Silk)* is a film of mood and memory; two Chinese women, who had been friends in school, are caught between a longing for social stability and something much more fulfilling but frightening and vague in their relationship. A large part of the action takes place in the Shanghai of 1935 although the film was shot entirely on location in Paris. *Dreams of Passion* is a sensual exploration of the essence of self and of the intimacy of desire between two Black women as communicated through movement, dance, and imagination.
