### **ABOUT THE FILM:** Frank and Eleanor Perry’s brilliant 1969 film LAST SUMMER has long been considered a lost classic – never released on DVD or Blu-ray and unseen in its controversial original form for over forty years. A boundary pushing teen film briefly slapped with an X rating, it opened to ecstatic reviews and garnered an Oscar nomination for actress Catherine Burns. Last seen at the Cinematheque in a cobbled together censored 16mm print, the new restoration is a revelation. Based on Evan Hunter’s bestselling novel staring Richard Thomas and Bruce Davison as teenage boys aimlessly spending the summer at the beach on Fire Island, N.Y. They fall under the spell of Barbara Hershey’s beautiful Sandy and the trio push each other into acts of cruelty against wallflower Cathy Burns. LAST SUMMER received four stars from critic Roger Ebert and this is a screening not to be missed. FORMAT: DCP DISTRIBUTOR: Warner Bros. COUNTRY: USA
