Presented by the UCI Third Cinema Now Collective, a collaboration between Prashanth Kamalakanthan, Margaux Fitoussi, and Felix Jean-Louis of the University of California, Irvine. The film series highlights the work of filmmakers from across the Global South and creates a forum for genuine encounters between the UC Irvine community, greater Los Angeles, and filmmakers from around the world. Each screening contextualizes regional cinematic voices and facilitates an extended talkback discussion, centering regional voices as they speak back to American audiences at this pivotal historical juncture. ## L'Homme sur les quais (The Man by the Shore) The parents of Sarah, 8 years old had to run away from the Haïti of the Duvaliers. The father, a discredited officer, trusted Sarah and her two sisters to their grandmother. For a time, secure away from Janvier’s revenge, a violent person dedicated to the new power, Sarah creates a world of her own, full of fantasies, of mysteries and rituals. 30 years later, the pictures of those years intermingle, nightmares recalling a man on the quays that put an end to her childhood. **dir.
