Hou Hsiao-hsien’s MILLENIUM MAMBO is narrated by Vicky (Shu Qi, RESURRECTION), who depicts her romantic flings with her exes Hao Hao and Jack from a decade prior. She looks back at her youth at the beginning of a new millenia, drenched in the neon lights of the club scene in Taipei. The story weaves between her two love affairs, torn between the two men she’s deeply infatuated with for contrasting reasons. A slow cinema masterpiece, MILLENIUM MAMBO is a mesmerizing gem.
