Before becoming the feminist powerhouse celebrated today, Nora Cortiñas lived the life of a traditional housewife. Her world was irreversibly transformed when Argentina’s military dictatorship (1976–1982) kidnapped her son Gustavo, along with thousands of other young activists. Refusing silence and despair, Nora joined other grieving mothers in 1977 to form the Madres of Plaza de Mayo, a movement that stood fearlessly against a violent authoritarian regime. Despite threats, imprisonment, and executions, they persevered, becoming an enduring symbol of justice, courage, and human rights. The feature-length documentary NORITA follows this extraordinary journey—from the heartbreak that first propelled Nora into activism to the lifelong commitment that made her a guiding light in struggles far beyond Argentina’s dictatorship. Her unwavering dedication carried her from the Plaza de Mayo to the heart of Argentina’s feminist “green wave,” including the 2018 fight to legalize abortion. Across decades, Nora transformed her grief into a beacon of hope, inspiring generations worldwide with her resilience, compassion, and unshakable belief in justice and equality.
