Healing Force of the Universe, Pasadena

**Paul Spring**’s new album *Dumb and Free* (out Nov 11, 2025) is a collection of character-driven songs inspired by his time canvassing and socializing in Stearns County, MN. Each track explores the worldview of someone he met—often politically opposed to him—shifting his songwriting from judgment to empathy. After returning to Brooklyn, he arranged the songs during an 8-month residency at Sunny’s Bar with a live band featuring Nick Hakim, Jon Nellen, Adam Brisbin, and Kevin Copeland. Between 2022–2025, Spring released five albums, including the folk/electronic *Thunderhead*, orchestral *River Flows Two Ways* (“a singular fresh offering” —*Aquarium Drunkard*), and *Vita Brevis*, a Latin-language record inspired by hymns and the Beach Boys. Raised in Saint Cloud, MN and now based in NYC, Spring has toured the US and Ireland, and completed two river canoe tours promoting albums. A devoted guitarist, he released J.S. Bach 12 String Transcriptions in 2021 and played Bach weekly at NYC’s Burp Castle. He was also lead singer of Holy Hive, and has worked with Post Malone, Fleet Foxes, Black Thought, and El Michels Affair. He technically won a Grammy in 2022 for a flute solo on Lecrae’s Good Lord.
