Pace Gallery, Los Angeles

Marking the first in a series of short-term, small-scale projects and presentations in the south gallery of its Los Angeles gallery, Pace will mount a focused showcase of five new paintings by Sarah Martin-Nuss. Martin-Nuss, whose work was featured in Pace’s recent group exhibition land marks in Los Angeles, is a New York-based artist working across painting, drawing, performance, and sound. Drawing inspiration from biological systems, post-humanist philosophy, and ecology, she explores enactments of transformation and interconnectivity in her practice. Meditating on the ways that temporality, memory, and embodied perception reshape our relationship to space, her symphonic canvases merge painting and drawing to evoke fluidity and change in the atmosphere and the seasons. Layered and gestural, Martin-Nuss’s works respond dynamically to different conditions of light, creating a sense of constant motion and inviting viewers to engage with them from various vantage points.
