Shuta Hasunuma (b. 1983, Tokyo) is a musician and artist known for blending field recordings, electronic textures, and melodic composition into richly layered works. He debuted in 2006 on Western Vinyl, later releasing projects on PROGRESSIVE FOrM and HEADZ. In 2010, he formed the Shuta Hasunuma Philharmonic, a contemporary “philharmonic pop orchestra” exploring collective performance. The group has released albums including *Time Plays – and So Do We* (2014), *Anthropocene* (2018), and *Symphil* (2023), and has performed at major venues and festivals such as Fuji Rock. Alongside his ensemble and solo music, Hasunuma has developed an international art practice, presenting exhibitions at Pioneer Works in New York and Shiseido Gallery in Tokyo, where he received the 69th Minister of Education’s Art Encouragement Prize for New Artists. His work spans film, television, and installation, and includes composing and conducting for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic opening ceremony. Recent projects include his solo album unpeople (2023) and ongoing collaborations with Keiji Haino.
