WHAMMY!, Los Angeles
## With a special introduction from author Vincent Albarano! *Every year we show exclusively shot-on-videotape works throughout September for something we call:* ***SOV SEPTEMBER****. Join us for this year's month-long exploration into the depths of some of the most under-appreciated margins of filmmaking. Usually no-budget, usually put together by small crews of friends (and family members, and neighbors), sometimes over-the-top gross, sometimes transgressive, and almost always like no other film you've ever seen - this series is for cinematically adventurous travelers only!* Jason is back for vengeance in the most sprawling and substantial of Bryan Fortin’s original Zones of Evil productions! Growing out of the 1980s fanzine and cable access program of the same name, Peabody, MA-based Fortin and collaborators Jim Demers and Steven Mallas (comprising FDM productions) produced a score of feature-length projects that never aired outside of Cablevision. Though their meditative *Happy Halloween* series is better known, *Jason’s Curse* is a more concise endeavor, full of atmospheric locations, impressive night-lensed chase scenes, and plenty of inventive kills. Fortin plays Rick, who, alongside his friend David (Brian Less), confronts Jason’s past killing spree that landed his sister in an asylum. As with other FDM productions, a lot of time is spent in Fortin’s house (standing in for a cabin) as he discusses the plot details and his character’s history, while a series of bloody kills occur outside. These moments are imbued with quiet charm in Bryan’s world, proving that he and his team created the peak of cable access programming experience. Despite the fact that there are rarely more than two people onscreen at one time, Fortin manages to transcend the sophomoric fan film heap and deliver a perfect bit of seasonal fun. Xposure Video is proud to present *Jason’s Curse* for the first time outside of the MA area. (Vincent Albarano) **dir. AESTHETIC DEVIATIONS delves deep into several of the most famous SOV horror titles to give credit for their unique and singular contributions to independent genre cinema. Informed equally by a fan’s passion and the studied approaches of scholarly analysis, Albarano offers the first-ever detailed examination of the SOV horror cycle, proving that this strain of amateur filmmaking is deserving of proper appraisal. Sure to enlighten and provoke thought among fans and converts to the unique charms of SOV cinema, as well as inspire newcomers, Albarano’s book proves an invaluable resource for a neglected area of cinematic inquiry. *****Whammy!*** *is located at* **1***2***00 N Alvarado St***, near the intersection of Sunset & Alvarado and in between Tierra Mia Coffee and Manly & Sons Barbershop.
