El Cid, Los Angeles
Join us for a haunted costume party with musical acts: Hollis Howard, Phantom Pink and Elijah Wells. Costumes required! A conversation with Hollis Howard would find you inundated with quick, witty references on topics ranging from a 60’s French noir film to a niche song by a 90s slacker rock band to an early 2000s romcom. Much like her creative references, Howard’s music exists in a classic timelessness. Howard has naturally gravitated to various forms of creativity and self expression throughout her life. From a high schooler directing videos of her friends skating, to now finding herself immersed in a wide-spanning creative circle in LA, Howard’s music is a peak into the messy self-discovery of a girl navigating her early 20’s. Her artistry far surpasses singing, with Howard at the helm of creative outlets spanning directing her own music videos to experimenting with her own production to editing her own cover art. Phantom Pink is the hauntingly tender alias of Los Angeles-based artist Brayton Walls, whose dark, cinematic strain of art-rock captures the beauty in emotional chaos. Blending jagged textures with dreamlike melodies, Phantom Pink’s sound is otherworldly, yet familiar. After years of shaping his voice in DIY scenes across the West Coast, Phantom Pink has emerged with a sound uniquely bruised and beautiful. Elijah Wells makes rhythmic alt-pop shaped by left-of-center production and a vivacious delivery. With a guitar, a sampler, and a drum, his performances are dynamic, collaborative, and unapologetically his own.
