In a quiet small town in rural Japan, Aoki, a cook, and Sugamoto, a pet shop worker, find comfort in their daily routine, sharing lunch together in the park. Their peaceful lives as young lovers shift when Sugamoto discovers a ring inside a fish and gifts it to Mochida in an awkward proposition. Meanwhile, in a distant seaside village, innkeeper Mochida takes over an old small hotel, where the memory of Rin, a guest of the inn, lingers in eerie silence. When Sugamoto visits the inn, the past and present begin to dissolve into one another.
