Alamo Drafthouse Cinema - Downtown, Los Angeles
Director Steven Soderberg's first film after his commercial comeback with 1998's witty pulp crime sensation OUT OF SIGHT, THE LIMEY is an incredible fusion of European art house sensibilities with tried and true gangster movie mechanics, mixing self-reflexive ’60s interruptions with clenched teeth violence. British ex-con Wilson (Terence Stamp) arrives in Los Angeles to investigate the mystery of his daughter's "accidental" death. His prime suspect, the wealthy, heavily guarded music promoter Terry Valentine (Peter Fonda), is no easy target. Propelled into an increasingly brutal search for truth, Wilson, with single-mindedness and terrifying precision, moves unstoppably toward revenge. Featuring two lead actors best known for their work in the late 1960s, THE LIMEY is a relentlessly driven genre picture that's still primarily interested in the mysterious workings of time and memory. One of the very best crime films from a decade full of classics.
