ABOUT Santa’s got a brand new bag in this bloody, holly-jolly action comedy and he’s stuffed it with some explosive toys for some very naughty mercenaries. These dangerous grinches (led by John Leguizamo) are trying to steal Christmas (technically $300 million) but they didn’t count on ‘ol Kris Kringle (David Harbour) throwing a candy cane in the works. Now it’s time for Santa to (chest)nut up, channel his inner John McClane, and cross a few names off his naughty list for good. VIOLENT NIGHT is fun, bloody, gleefully over the top, and the perfect way to kick off the holidays. This is the grumpy, rumpled, bar-diving Santa that David Harbour was apparently born to play, because he perfectly embodies this kickass St. Nick with weariness, warmth, and wrath. John Leguizamo is amazing as always as the leader of the mercs, while Leah Bradley charms as a young girl on Santa’s nice list trapped in the house with them. It’s time to deck the halls and lock and load – Santa’s comin’ to town.
