His work focuses on how the illusionary mechanisms of images construct the meaning and reality of viewing. In his fluorescent spatial installations, he frequently reconstructs sites of “illusion,” exploring sensation and cognition to understand the internal states of phenomena and reflecting on the contradictions of self-identity and belonging. Recently, he has expanded his concepts into site-specific works that encompass space, landscape, and participatory projects. Hsieh has participated in residency programs at Seoul Art Space Geumcheon (Korea, 2022) and Soulangh Cultural Park (Taiwan, 2019). His work Pixel and Star Cluster was selected for the Taipei Art Awards in 2021, and he was awarded First Prize in the TDCC Brainstorming Contemporary Arts Award (2018) and the Silver Prize in New Media Art at the National Art Exhibition (2016). Recent solo exhibitions include Methods at Absolute Space for the Arts (Taiwan, 2023); Fever Screen at Digital Art Center Taipei (Taiwan, 2022); and Natural Sequence at YIRI Arts (Taiwan, 2021). His works have also been presented in group exhibitions, including Shadow is the Light at the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (Taiwan, 2024) and Not in This Image at Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts (Taiwan, 2022). This residency is made possible by a partnership between 18th Street Arts Center and the Taiwan Academy.
